Government of Saskatchewan is refunding PST on Group Benefits
In 2017, the Government of Saskatchewan applied a 6 per cent provincial sales tax (PST) to many goods and services that were previously non-taxable – including insurance premiums.
• On February 26, 2018, the newly elected Premier of Saskatchewan announced his intention to reinstate the tax exemption that previously applied to insurance premiums.
• The tax exemption is being reinstated retroactively to August 1, 2017, the date that PST first applied to insurance premiums in Saskatchewan.
• This means that your clients are entitled to a refund of the SK PST they paid on their Group Benefits insurance premiums.
